On Monday, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted, albeit with a spelling error, requesting everyone stop sharing misinformation about the use of martial law to maintain stability in this ongoing crisis. He wrote, “Please stop spreading stupid rumors about marshall law. COMPLETELY FALSE. We will continue to see closings & restrictions on hours of non-essential businesses in certain cities & states. But that is NOT marshall law.”

Could Trump Be Planning to Declare Martial Law and Suspend the 2020 Election?
“Donald Trump has long expressed admiration for autocratic thugs. On numerous occasions, he’s suggested that he’d like to remain president beyond two terms, or even for life… His July 11, 2019 tweet, for instance, “kidded” about staying in office for “10 or 14” years.
The number “14” comes with an eerie resonance. Because, that’s exactly how many years Philippine strong man Ferdinand Marcos added to his tenure after declaring Martial Law in 1972. As dictator, Marcos jailed and/or tortured 35,000 suspected political dissidents and executed 3,572. Peering back through that dark historical lens, chants of Lock Her Up! echo with a much more ominous tone.
The question is, “Could Trump mimic Marcos?”
The plain and simple answer is, “Yes.”
And, he could already be setting the table for such a power grab.

Trump says national lockdown for coronavirus isn’t happening

“On Thursday night, California Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered all residents — nearly 40 million of them — to remain in their homes except for essential movement.
On Friday morning, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a similar order requiring all nonessential workers in the state remain at home, though leisure travel is still allowed.
Other states and major cities have taken measures to reduce crowds by limiting public gatherings, closing restaurants, bars, casinos and other places of business that attract crowds.
Trump also closed the northern and southern U.S. borders this week to non-essential travel in an effort to block potentially infected travelers.
Earlier this week, fake messages circulated Americans’ cell phones and social media claiming that a national mandatory quarantine would be going into effect. However, the White House National Security Council denounced the rumors.
